Valentine With Eleven Minutes

I thought valentine’s day this year would be uneventful. I am delighted to be mistaken.

As one of those not romantically involved with anyone, I wouldn’t want to be labeled as bitter about romantic occasions or as one afflicted with break-up psychosis as coined by Scott R. Garceau in his Xpat Files at the Philippine Star (even if there is a grain of truth in it). I’m not in denial, I just want to move on. Being burdened with those labels wouldn’t help any.

Expecting valentine’s day to come and go without much fanfare as it did during my past single days, February 14 was booked in advance by someone who went through the preparations with relish and grand plans. This is one person whom I’ve known for almost a decade, with whom ties were established, broken by circumstances then rebuilt when crisis befell. Time has tested that friendship and our bond prevailed.

Our plans were almost ruined by the unexpected downpour and the tardiness of my reliever in nanny duties. When I was able to finally get away, we met up for early dinner, some strolling around to dispel the fullness and coffee and dessert in a place where we relived memories of discovery and uncovering.

Although it didn’t bother me to be loveless this valentine season, I was thankful to have someone who was willing to share my company and go through life’s up and downs with. This is a favorite song that fits the friendship and the occasion.

Huwag Kang Matakot

Huwag kang matakot

‘Di mo ba alam nandito lang ako

Sa iyong tabi

‘Di kita pababayaan kailanman

At kung ikaw ay mahulog sa bangin

Ay sasaluhin kita

Huwag kang matakot na matulog mag-isa

Kasama mo naman ako

Huwag kang matakot na umibig at lumuha

Kasama mo naman ako

Huwag kang matakot

Huwag kang matakot

Dahil ang buhay mo’y walang katapusan

Makapangyarihan ang pag-ibig

Na hawak mo sa iyong kamay

Ikaw ang Diyos at hari ng iyong mundo

Matakot sila sa ‘yo

[Repeat CHORUS 1 except last line]

Huwag kang matakot na magmukhang tanga

Kasama mo naman ako

Huwag kang matakot sa hindi mo pa makita

Kasama mo naman ako

Huwag kang matakot

[Repeat CHORUS 1]

Huwag kang matakot (huwag kang matakot)

‘Di kita pababayaan kailanman

[Repeat till fade]
